Allocated to research program
Summary
The aim of the joint project is to develop a technically easy-to-implement process for the targeted reduction of greenhouse gas emissions (especially methane and nitrous oxide) during slurry and digestate storage by adding calcium cyanamide as a novel additive with the possibility of preserving the gas formation potential of farm manure for biogas production and also producing a high-quality and environmentally friendly organic fertiliser for agriculture. To this end, manure and slurry storage trials will be carried out to determine emission reduction, analyse intermediate and degradation products and investigate the effect of treated manure on the biogas process. In addition, extensive investigations of the microbial communities and their changes due to the addition of calcium cyanamide, the performance of plot experiments with measurements of soil-borne nitrous oxide and methane emissions, and evaluations of emissions and economic efficiency are being carried out. Recommendations for action will be developed on the basis of the results.
