Projects supported by the COST funding initiative
COST (European Cooperation in Science and Technology) is an intergovernmental funding initiative designed to foster research networking in Europe and beyond. The funding programme is one of the most important initiatives for promoting research collaboration in Europe and thus makes a significant contribution to the European Research Area (ERA). COST acts as an incubator for future project proposals under the relevant research framework programme and for long-term collaborations. One of COST’s key focuses is to specifically involve early-career researchers and researchers from European countries with weaker research and innovation capacities in networks. Early-career researchers in particular are offered unique opportunities to further their training and lay the foundations for a research career.
COST Actions are networking projects, usually interdisciplinary in nature, that serve as a springboard for further joint (EU) research projects. They are open and accessible, allowing interested parties to join even during the course of the project. In doing so, a bottom-up network is established that connects research initiatives across Europe and beyond.
