Summary
The goal of the project is the value-added processing of biomass by novel and advanced technologies to better exploit the environmental and economic potential of biogenic resources. A specific aim is to increase the efficiency of the anaerobic digestions process regarding energy yields and fertilizer quality. However, the entire biomass cycle is considered, including farming, animal husbandry, residue management, refinement of digestates as fertilizers, etc. The focus is on treatments by physical plasma. The overreaching goal is a detailed understanding and consequent improvement of processes with respect to biomass degradability, depletion or enrichment of nitrogen (targeted adjustment of nutrient availability), risk reduction (reduction of antimicrobial resistance transfer), increase of energy yields and phosphorus recovery.
