Summary
SALSA aims to reduce our dependence on chemical pesticides by developing and testing biobased alternatives for plant protection . The project uses agricultural and industrial waste from the tomato value chain to create innovative formulations (biopesticides, biostimulants and BCAs) supporting plants at different growth stages. These formulations are tested on crops, with input from rural communities, to ensure that they meet local needs and have a positive socio-economic impact. SALSA does not stop at just testing; it also aims to understand the overall picture . A comprehensive multifactorial sustainability approach is used to evaluate the social, economic, and environmental impacts of the proposed solutions. Alternatives are evaluated for their effects on the environment, human and animal health through the Safe-and-Sustainable-by-Design (SSbD) 3 framework. In addition, SALSA goes beyond research, promoting knowledge exchange and collaboration , connecting farmers, researchers and companies to promote education and dissemination. Choosing SALSA means supporting the combination of innovation with real-world application, aiming for a healthier and more sustainable future in agriculture.
