The INSECTA 2021 International Conference will take place on 8 and 9 September 2021 in Magdeburg, Germany as hybrid event. It aims to give an overview of state-of-the-art technology of insects for food, feed and non-food application. Topics cover the whole value chain from research, growing and processing to safety and waste valorisation. With “insect health and welfare” the conference will point out the ethical aspects of insect farming and introduce a very current topic. The registration is open now. Abstracts can be submitted until June 18, 2021.

According to entomologists’ estimates, over 10 quintillion insects are living on earth. Whether grasshoppers, crickets or mealworms - the use of insects for a wide variety of applications is still considered rather exotic in Europe. Yet they are highly valued worldwide as a valuable and sustainable alternative source of protein, among other things. Recently, mealworms were approved as food in the European Union (albeit initially limited to the applicant producer). There global interest is huge. The INSECTA 2021 brings together research, industry and practice to discuss the current state of the art and innovations, as well as ethical issues in insect use.

Topics cover:

  1. Insect Farming and Production Systems
  2. Insect Processing for Food and Feed
  3. Safety and Environmental Aspects
  4. Non-food Application of Insects
  5. Insect Health and Insect Welfare

The conference will take place on 8 and 9 September 2019 in Magdeburg, Germany and can also be attended virtually.

Deadlines:

Abstract submission: June 18, 2021
Registration: Aug. 31, 2021

Background:The INSECTA 2021 International Conference is jointly organized by PPM Magdeburg and ATB. INSECTA was launched in 2015 as a national symposium on the use of insects as food and feed. Since then, the event has established itself internationally and has made a name for itself specifically with topics on the use of insects in the non-food sector.
