26 Feb 2014: Participants of the German-French workshop "Perspectives of Knowledge-Based Bioeconomy - Challenges and Solutions for the Future" visited ATB's biotechnological research facilities in the field of material use of biomass.

The workshop was jointly organized by the French Embassy and BioTOP Berlin-Brandenburg on 27 Feb 2014 in Berlin. It invited experts from France and Germany for an overview an current research and new bioconversion production processes.

Prior to the event, a group of biotechnologists together with members of the science department of the French Embassy and the co-organizer Berlin Partner of Economics and Technology visited the ATB pilot plant for information on biotechnological conversion of various agrarian residues into lactic acid, a basic chemical for the production of bioplastics.

In the new freshness lab, ATB scientist Dr. Kai Reineke presented new technologies for the hygienization of food that are currently being examined at the ATB: treatment with plasma and high pressure.
