July 15, 2016: Mateus Tonini Eitelwein, who just received the 2016 Graduate Students Award from the International Society of Precision Agriculture, will finalize his doctorate at the ATB in the field of proximal soil sensing in the research program precision farming and precision livestock production

Mateus Tonini Eitelwein is a PhD student within the Precision Agriculture Lab of Prof José Paulo Molin at the University of Sao Paulo, Luiz de Queiroz College of Agriculture. The University of Sao Paulo is one of ATB´s cooperating universities. In Brazil, the young scientist is conducting research on proximal soil sensing as efficient means to characterize soil quality and adopt agricultural inputs.

At the ATB, Mateus Tonini Eitelwein will be investigating the potentials of portable x-ray fluorescence and optical spectroscopy for rapid assessment of plant available nutrients, e.g., phosphate, potassium, calcium, and soil texture. The research will be carried out under the supervision of Dr. Robin Gebbers. It contributes to ATB’s research focus on proximal soil sensing and soil fertility. Young scientist Mateus Tonini Eitelwein was just awarded with the 2016 Graduate Students Award from the International Society of Precision Agriculture.

He will officially receive the Graduate Students Award will be granted officially on 4 August 2016 during the International Conference on Precision Agriculture in St. Louis, Missouri USA.
