How can we tell different types of soil apart, and what types are there anyway? What are good and what are bad bacteria and microorganisms? How can we get rid of them? These and many other questions were answered by experts on 26 May 2026 at the Children’s Day event at the ATB.
It started with a big welcome for all 40 children and their parents. After that, we went to their workstations and listened to exactly what they do. My brother and I even got a short tour of the institute’s grounds and were allowed to make a video call.
Then we moved on to the stations. We were divided into four groups for this. The younger children built a miniature agricultural world and were allowed to practise milking a cow. Meanwhile, we older children explored the different types of soil. We learnt how to identify soil types and were allowed to work with clay. At the next station, we learnt a lot about microorganisms. We were shown and got to try for ourselves how to make them visible under a microscope. At the end, we all gathered again in the wind tunnel, where the huge fan ruffled our hair.
I particularly enjoyed the work at the stations, because we learnt so much there. What’s more, I can now imagine much better what my mum does at work and what her workplace looks like. I’ll definitely be back for the next ATB Children’s Day. I’m really looking forward to it!
