ATB-Colloquium: Current research in the ATB wind tunnel

ATB‘s atmospheric boundary layer wind tunnel allows the study of air flows around agricultural buildings and dispersion as well as circulation and ventilation processes in the buildings.

With a tunnel height of 2.3 m and a width of 3.0 m, it is one of the largest wind tunnels in agricultural research. Models in scale 1:100 to 1:300 can be installed within the tunnel.

The air flow is visualized using laser-light sections. By means of a flame ionization-detector, the concentrations of tracer gases can be measured. Measurements of velocity and turbulence are performed using a constant-temperature- and a laser-Doppler-anemometer.
