Summary
The aim of this project topic was to deepen our understanding on the combined effect of ethylene and relative humidity on the postharvest quality of broccoli and to design possible packaging systems that could help in the removal of ethylene and prevent saturated water vapour condensation inside the package containing fresh produce. Tasks are to develop and validate mathematical model on the relationship between storage temperature and ethylene in modified atmosphere packaged (MAP) broccoli, to investigate the effects of ethylene scavengers, MAP and storage temperature on the shelf life of broccoli using a multidisciplinary approach, and to identify the most promising methods for determining quality changes.
