Summary
The aim of the collaborative project is the use of high-throughput molecular data from agricultural biogas plants for a detailed characterization of microbial networks by means of comprehensive bioinformatic analysis (meta-analysis), in which process engineering related background data is integrated (meta-meta-analysis). Based on such an integrative data analysis, novel information is to be derived on relationships between biotic and abiotic process factors in biogas production, which should form a novel and innovative basis for the further process engineering optimization of the biogas process. Subproject 1 involves the study of the composition of biogas microbiomes based on currently available metagenome data sets as well as the characterization of functional properties of the involved microbial species. For this purpose, additionally, the genetic information of microbial isolates from biogas reactors is used. Existing data gaps are closed by generating and evaluating new genome and Metagenom data sets. The work is intended to serve for the identification and characterization of hitherto unrecognized key organisms which are of process engineering significance for degradation steps in the biogas process.
