How can women help shape the future of agricultural sciences? To mark the UN Year of the Woman Farmer 2026, this workshop brings together female researchers from the agricultural, environmental, engineering and life sciences to advance research and innovation through an interdisciplinary approach.
“Women Empowering Agricultural Science” (WEAS) highlights the achievements of women in agricultural research and their role in innovation and sustainable development. The aim is to bring together scientific disciplines and to link basic research with practical applications in agriculture, food security and sustainable agricultural and food systems.
The programme includes presentations and interdisciplinary discussions on biodiversity, plant and microbiome research, biotechnology, digital agriculture, agricultural robotics, plant protection and food systems. Also taking part are ATB researchers Prof. Dr Cornelia Weltzien, who will speak on the role of agricultural robotics in sustainability, and Prof. Dr Gabriele Berg, who will discuss the importance of the environmental microbiome for ‘One Health’. The workshop marks the start of a series of events designed to raise the profile of female researchers from around the world, particularly from the Global South.
