Jan 29, 2016: Entrepreneurs from food industry visited the Institute as part of this year´s PromoFood

The international guests were informed, inter alia, on new methods for quality and safety monitoring. Dr. Oliver Schlüter, coordinator of ATB´s research program "quality and safety of food and feed" explained innovative procedures for hygienization by hydrostatic pressure and plasma. In addition, approaches of tailor-made packaging and storage systems were presented. Another highlight of the visit was the pilot plant for the biotechnological production of lactic acid from agricultural residues. Lactic acid is a basic chemical for biopolymers.

Research for quality and safety of food at the Leibniz Institute for Agricultural Engineering Potsdam-Bornim covers the entire spectrum between primary production and food processing technology. Developing sustainable, product-specific technology strategies helps to reduce losses and to make the processes energy-efficient, resources-saving, ergonomic and economical.
