Biochemicals from waste wood

Aug 1, 2017: Joint project with ATB participation started. "Acid-based hydrolysis of untreated waste wood recyclates for the production of biochemicals" aims to make use of recycled and old timber for basic chemicals.

With today, the project "Acid-based hydrolysis of untreated waste wood recyclates for the production of biochemicals" started. HyAlt4Chem is aimed at the utilization of recycled and old wood for basic chemicals. Processes are developed and optimized for this purpose.

In the subproject "Direct fermentation sugar hydrolysates" ATB investigates the fermentability of different feedstocks using the example of biotechnological metabolism to lactic acid. Depending on composition and type of wood, the feedstocks differ significantly.

Background of the project HyAlt4Chem is the implementation of the national "Roadmap Bioraffineries" for the priority task "exploitation and high-quality use of new or alternative sustainable sources of raw materials, including the use of biogenic residues and waste in a biorefinery".

The project units partners from science and industry: ATB Potsdam, Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft zur Förderung der angewandten Forschung e.V., München, Green Sugar AG, Meißen, ORmatiC GmbH, Berlin and GNS - Gesellschaft für Nachhaltige Stoffnutzung mbH, Halle. It is coordinated by BCM BioEconomy Cluster Management GmbH, Halle.

The funding for a period of three years is granted by BMBF through its project agency VDINDE Innovation + Technik GmbH awithin the framework for the promotion of SME-centric strategic R & D collaboration in networks and clusters (KMU-NetC).
