At the invitation of the German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture BMEL, about 40 experts will discuss the "Digital transformation of the agricultural value chain - opportunities, challenges and the role of science" on 2 and 3 December. ATB digital expert Prof. Dr.-Ing. Cornelia Weltzien will be among the panelists.

On the occasion of Germany's EU Council Presidency, the Federal Minister of Food and Agriculture, Julia Klöckner, together with the European Agricultural Research Initiative (EURAGRI), invite to a virtual conference on "Digital transformation of the agricultural value chain - opportunities, challenges and the role of science". The Federal Minister will also give the opening speech.

Digitization is transforming agricultural primary production and the food sector. Actors across the whole value chain up to the consumer are affected by this transformation.
The numerous digital innovations have the potential to contribute to sustainable food production, enhance animal welfare, combat climate change, improve global food security and promote biodiversity.
Beside technological developments, science has an important role to play in critically reflecting and assessing the sustainability of digital innovations. With regard to a governance framework for agricultural data, it is necessary to implement guidelines and/or rules that take into account fundamental data principles while ensuring legal certainty for farmers.

On the two conference days, around 40 leading international digitisation experts and more than 800 participants will come together to discuss two main topics:

1. What is the state of digitisation of agriculture in Europe? How will the digital transformation of agriculture become a sustainable success for all stakeholders?
2. A governance framework for agricultural data: Which rules and guidelines are needed for agricultural data in Europe to create legal reliability?

The conference addresses stakeholders from politics, science and practice. The interested public is invited to participate in the conference.
There will be an opportunity to ask questions and participate in live discussions via a chat.
