How are geopolitical tensions and global power shifts changing efforts to achieve sustainable development? These are the questions that will be addressed at the Potsdam Summer School 2026, which invites young early career researchers/scientists and professionals to Potsdam.
Against the backdrop of growing rivalries between major powers, techno-nationalist strategies and new lines of conflict, participants will discuss how global sustainability goals can be pursued under changed geopolitical conditions. The focus will be on, among other things, the governance of global commons, the transformation of energy and industrial systems, and the impact of protectionism and changed supply chains on sustainable production and consumption patterns.
The Summer School offers space for interdisciplinary exchange, in-depth specialist input and joint discussions with experts from academia and practice. The aim is to develop strategies for advancing sustainability transformations even in an increasingly fragmented international environment.
