Oct 19, 2026: MarginUp! Satellite event at the Global Bioeconomy Summit 2026

How can marginal land be used sustainably to provide biomass for the bioeconomy, replace fossil raw materials and boost regional value creation? Innovative land-use concepts open up opportunities for climate action, the economy and rural areas.

As part of the Global Bioeconomy Summit 2026, the EU project MarginUp! is hosting an international conference. Under the title ‘Unlocking Marginal Lands for the Global Bioeconomy’, the event will focus on sustainable biomass value chains and their contribution to socio-economic development and climate action.

The programme includes keynote speeches, practical examples from Europe, Africa and South America, as well as panel discussions on viable and responsible utilisation pathways. In interactive workshops, participants will discuss opportunities for transferring successful approaches, policy frameworks and partnerships for the industrial use of bio-based raw materials. A concluding panel discussion will summarise the findings and outline prospects for further collaboration.

The event is aimed at researchers, businesses, investors, policy-makers, farmers, landowners and other stakeholders in the bioeconomy. It offers an opportunity to exchange experiences, initiate new collaborations and jointly develop ways to sustainably utilise land that has hitherto been underused.
