WG Bioeconomic systems modelling

The working group 'Bioeconomic systems modelling' studies material flows of the bioeconomy and identifies options that contribute to a more environmentally friendly production and a better adaptation to climate change.

In cooperation with external partners and other working groups of ATB, we are analysing environmental impacts of existing and potential, future biomass usage pathways. In doing so, we set a focus on improvement on different levels: better-adapted management, technological advancement and changes on system level. At the same time, we aim to gain a better understanding of the uncertainties associated with research results in this field.

We are using several methods such as material flow analysis (MFA) and life cycle assessment (LCA). In particular, we are conducting simulations with the Biological Resource Utilization Impacts (BIORIM) model, which is designed and further developed by the working group.
