March 23, 2018: From 19 to 23 March 2018, PhD and Master students from Sweden, Greece, Malta, Germany, and Spain got together at ATB for a training that combined theory with practice.

Does your food taste good? Is it safe? What are researchers and the food industry doing to ensure that you don’t have to compromise on the pleasure of good food for the lower risk of catching a food-borne disease?

From 19 to 23 March 2018, a group of students and experts in food safety and processing met at ATB in Potsdam to learn about the best ways to keep food clean for longer using clean technology. The training provided information on fundamental principles and the opportunity to experience applications of novel technologies for increased food safety such as cold atmospheric plasma, high hydrostatic pressure (HHP), UV light, ultrasound, and microwave heating.
Students also learned how to better communicate their research to experts and consumers.

The training was organized as part of SUIT4FOOD, an ERASMUS+ funded project. Its goal is to teach students how to use techniques like high water pressure or ultrasound instead of chemicals to make food safe, with less waste and environmental impact.

SUIT4FOOD is organized by the University of Malta together with leading institutes around Europe. It is funded by the ERASMUS+ programme of the European Union which is supported by the European Commission.
