The AMR-PIG project is investigating mechanisms and transmission pathways that lead to the spread of AMR antimicrobial resistance in animal husbandry in particular in pig fattening. Feeding trials and hygiene improvement will be investigated as possible AMR reduction measures. The results will help to derive interventions and strategies to minimise AMR emergence and spread in commercial animal husbandry. The project is part of the Leibniz Research Network INFECTIONS in an Urbanizing World - Humans, Animals, Environments. The aim of this research network is to use interdisciplinary research and communication to develop new strategies and methods for early warning systems, improved outbreak management and optimised containment of antimicrobial resistant (AMR) pathogens. The One Health approach, which takes into account the interaction of humans, animals and the environment, will be applied.
