Summary
Scientific objectives of the project: - Analytical and experimental determination of the heat-mass transport processes (convection and diffusion) in arable soils - Identification of transport processes in porous materials (soil samples/grain beds) with inhomogeneous granular material distributions. At SZIE Godollo, scientists developed a new analytical approach for a calculation method for equations of diffusions-/transport in porous materials. Objectives of the collaboration in this project are: (1) further development of the computational model with a simulation of the drying process in porous bulk material. (2) The simulation of the transport processes in a system CFD ( Computational Fluid Dynamics) by changing the structure or the flow processes of the porous material through DEM (structural analysis with Discrete Element Method). The coupling of both methods is planned. The methods will be transferred from the grain drying process to soil samples. Structural changes due to shrinkage during the drying and the effects on the convection and diffusion processes will be modeled. (3) The model will be adapted to practical applications and checked in the experiment. There have successfully been taken temperature profiles of soil samples during drying processes with infrared cameras (IR thermography). Temporal changes in the temperature profiles provide information on the drying curves and thus of the transport processes in the porous materials.
