September 2013: ATB engaged in training professionals

Since September 2013 once again four young professionals aged 17 to 19 years pass a structured training program at the ATB.

In the central ATB workshop apprentice Chris Möller just started a three-year apprenticeship as an industrial mechanic. Isabell Grohmann has begun training as a specialist in media and information services in ATB's library. The boundary layer wind tunnel is one of the locations where Friederike Girnt will gather first experiences in research. Having successfully passed her high school examination, she currently works as a volunteer at the ATB. The voluntary social year in science, technology and sustainability is a special chance for young people to get a close-up view on job opportunities in science while working in the field of environmental and climate protection in universities and research institutions. Having successfully obtained her specialized high school degree in the field of "technology" Sarah Glinkin is currently passing an internship in ATB's Postharvest Technology Department for a period of one year collecting first experiences in a multidisciplinary research institute.

ATB is continuously developing its training program. With currently five offered training positions, the institute has doubled the number of job offers since 2008, more are planned. The professional spectrum offered by ATB currently includes clerk for office communication, clerk for human resources services, industrial mechanic, and specialist in media and information services. In addition, a training course for high school graduates specializing in engineering or administration is offered annually. Early insights and orientation regarding studying different disciplines and professions are offered regularly to high school students through internships.

The ATB also participates in inter-company training. Training of biological assistants is currently supported by internships at ATB that offer introduction to microbiological and molecular biological methods. Moreover, internship opportunities for disadvantaged trainees are provided by ATB’s mechanical workshop in collaboration with partner companies.
