12. Sep 2023: Book a Scientist - The Science Speed Dating

"Book a Scientist" gives you the chance to talk to an expert from the Leibniz Association for 25 minutes and ask everything you've always wanted to know about your favourite topic.

The individual 25-minute one-to-one meetings will take place online, next time on 12 September 2023 from 10-11.30am as well as 4-5.30pm.

Take the opportunity to talk to the ATB scientists Dr. Katrin DrastigDr.

Dr. Agata Olszewska-Widdrat (in Englisch): Fermentation, bioengineering, bioprocess optimization

I am a researcher who is interested in utilization of different waste streams, coming from industry sectors and turning them into valuable products. Within the biorefinnery concept, I am trying to combine side stream utilization and formation of new, innovative biomaterials, that can be used in different sectors, such as automotive, food packaging, agriculture, construction, biomedicine, among others.

Aleksandra Atanasova (in Englisch): Assessment of treatments to reduce the occurrence of AMR bacteria in chicken manure

Spreading of antibiotic resistance is one important threat for human health. Microorganisms with resistance deteriorate the effectiveness of antibiotics, which are the first choice in controlling and treating infectious diseases. There are three main ways to transfer antimicrobial resistance. Due to high selection pressure, antibiotic resistance more often develop and spread in hospitals, is transmitted between animals and spread into the environment. This project ENVIRE (https://www.envire-project.de/) focuses on the transfer of antibiotic resistant bacteria from chicken farms to humans through the environment. This study could be very useful for the chicken production industry because the results found in this research could help to reduce the spread of antibiotic resistant bacteria.
