Subject of our research is the assessment of production systems in the bioeconomy for the integrated supply of food, bioenergy and biomaterials. The objective is to identify site-specific technologies and management strategies for a sustainable intensification. Trade-offs have to be identified and analyzed, alternatives to be shown and decisions to be supported by supplying knowledge.
Our research focuses on the assessment of environmental and socio-economic impacts. We apply a broad spectrum of methods. Modelling and simulation of process chains, farms and production systems is based on our profound systems’ knowledge, methodological competence and dedicated data supply by own measurements and aquisition or in co-operation with other departments of ATB and external partners.
Thus we enable the assessment of technologies and management strategies in comprehensive systemic contexts.
