The department Engineering for Crop Production develops new techniques and procedures for a sustainable and resource-saving production of plant materials.
By using sufficient processually and environmentaly relevant information, essential contributions are possible to improve the efficiency of crop production and reduce the environmental impact.
Sensors for measuring crop and soil parameters are developed or adapted to acquire the needed information with acceptable costs. Questions of technological incorporation are discussed before sensor development.
The research results in sensor developments are directly used for the site specific crop management (fertilisation and crop protection). The developed sensors are tested in production process under conditions of praxis and are assed according to resulting effects.
For the competitiveness of sensor based production processes effective solutions for data acquisition and data use are necessary, especially in terms of food safety.
Besides the sensor based information acquisition, the development of new solutions in the field of automation and robotics contributes to a more cost-efficient and less pollutive production of plant material. This results in both an improved income situation in agriculture and an increased biodiverstity on agricultural areas by alternative plants.
