The freshness lab of the ATB is an extensive technical research platform. It offers excellent conditions to carry out research and quality assessments on fresh produce and to develop new methods for processing, transportation, storage, and display of products - from laboratory to field tests:

• Molecular- and microbiology

Bacteriological and mycological labs
Molecular biological analysis (including real-time PCR, capillary electrophoresis, 2D electrophoresis, MALDI-TOF/MS)
Cytological analysis (flow cytometry, electro-optical analysis, confocal and fluorescence microscopy)

• Physiological studies and reference analysis

Plant growth chambers and air cells with CA-equipment
Gas exchange system
UHPLC, AAS and ICP-OES

• Sensor laboratory

Optical and acoustical quality analysis
UV / Vis mobile spectrometer
Sensor implant for stress measurements
RFID tags and miniature data logger

• Process engineering

Washing and cutting techniques
High hydrostatic pressure and plasma systems
Wind-tunnel for controlled air flow
