Leibniz Research Alliances

Leibniz institutions form collaborative research alliances which use inter- and transdisciplinary approaches to address current scientific and socially-relevant issues. The Leibniz Research Alliances are designed for a period of five to 15 years and are open for collaboration with universities, other non-university research institutions and infrastructure facilities as well as research groups abroad.

Leibniz Research Alliance "Sustainable Food Production and Healthy Nutrition“

ATB is coordinating the Leibniz Research Alliance „Sustainable Food Production and Healthy Nutrition“.

The alliance was established on the initiative of the ATB. Today, 15 Leibniz Institutes collaborate to tackle the complex research topics in this area - from the molecular level up to economic issues.

Securing food supply is one of the greatest global challenges of the 21st century. There is a quantitative as well as a qualitative dimension to it. In order to organise the sustainable production of foodstuffs, it must be considered along the entire value chain. The second challenge is to provide society with a healthy diet. An essential objective of the research alliance is to establish principles based on systems science to respond to the interdisciplinary challenge of “sustainable food production and healthy nutrition” in all its complexity and on all levels of the system, and to be able to provide society with scientifically sound and systematically tested recommendations for action.

Speaker of the alliance: Prof. Dr. Reiner Brunsch
