Tasks and targets

The central task of the Leibniz Institute for Agricultural Engineering (ATB) is to create technical and process-engineering bases for sustainable land management and the development of efficient technologies for industry and agriculture. 

Research targets at resource-efficient use of biological systems for the production of food, raw materials and energy.

Technology assessment is applied to make sure that the developed solutions are profitable for users and manufacturers and correspond at the same time with the demands for environment protection, animal welfare and last but not least consumer protection along the whole value added chain.

Main target group of the ATB work is the scientific community. Other users of our research results of the are enterprises that are sdirectly or indirectly involved in agricultural production (agricultural machinery manufacturers, trade, food industry) and, in addition, agricultural extention, politics and administration.

The ATB maintains and extends scientific cooperation with national and international facilities and organisations in education and research. As a member the Leibniz Association the ATB fulfills its duties for the promotion of young promising scientists.
