Gentle conservation methods for feed

Flow simulation of grain dryers

High-quality forage is a prerequisite for the safe production of food of animal origin and for safeguarding animal health.

The development of new methods of feed conservation and the optimizationof existing methods are our key responsibilities with focus on energy-efficient, environmentally safe drying, wet preservation, and storage of feed. Excellent analytical as well as drying facilities at lab and pilot scale are available for product-specific studies. Methodological approaches can be applied to other agricultural products.

Current research

  • Wet preservation and storage of grain and feed
  • Microbiological basic research on the development of microbial biocoenoses in silage
  • Modeling of drying processes
  • Development of energy efficient mixed flow dryers for grain
  • Optimized silo control by using sensors for on-line density measurements in horizontal silos
