Energy crops for biogas
The aptitude of habitat adapted crop rotations for the cultivation of annual energy plants were investigated in several perennial projects - promoted by the „Fachagentur für Nachwachsende Rohstoffe“ (FNR). Biogas production and quality of the whole production chain were enhanced in consequence of new findings about suitable plant sorts, crop rotations as well as optimal conservation and storage. In addition the multifaceted cultivation of different digestible goods results in risk spread and income stabilisation for farmers.
Energy plants constitute the raw material which allows the stabilisation on fluctuate energy demand. They also contribute to the decreasing of abatement costs for greenhouse gases. Bioenergy plants should only consume few amounts of animal or human food (maize, corn). The new EEG drives this object indirect for modern bioenergy plants constructions by a limitation for the insert of relative maize/corn percentage for biomethanation. For this reason used raw material needs to have certain transport dignity or have be cultivated in the region.
