Department Engineering for Livestock Management
Head of Department: Prof. Dr. Thomas Amon
Office: Ulrike Seifert
The department "Engineering for Livestock Management" sees its mission in the combination of basic and applied research in animal husbandry that aims at improving animal health, animal welfare and animal protection while optimising environmental impacts and economic efficiency. Long term sustainability aspects are a core element of our research. Our work is embedded in multidisciplinary national and international collaborations that aim at finding whole system solutions. We apply innovative methodologies in analysis and sensor technology and in data and information processing for automation.
Research and teaching in our department is dedicated to a further development and implementation of animal and environmentally friendly housing systems. We contributed to innovative developments and generate missing data. This is the basis for acceptance by farmers, authorities and consumers. Our work shall increase consumer's confidence in livestock management and quality of food produced in animal husbandry systems. Students, phds and post doc find extensive possibilities to complement their education.
We focus our work on the topics animal husbandry systems and housing climate and emissions.
