Curriculum Vitae

Niels Landwehr studied computer science with secondary subject mathematics at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg, Germany. He obtained his Ph.D. entitled "Trading Expressivity from Efficiency in Statistical Relational Learning" from the Department of Computer Science, Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium, in 2009. From 2009 to 2013 he worked as a postdoctoral researcher in the machine learning research group of the Institute of Computer Science, University of Potsdam.  From 2013 to 2017 he led the Emmy-Noether research group "Machine Learning and Scientific Data Analysis" at the same institute, before joining the ATB as leader of the junior research group "Data Science in Agriculture" in 2017.

He received the Scienti c Prize IBM Belgium for Informatics (best Ph.D. thesis in Computer Science in Belgium), the ECCAI Artificial Intelligence Dissertation Award (best Ph.D. thesis in artificial intelligence in Europe), as well as the Best Paper Award, Best Student Paper Award, and Test of Time Award of the European Conference on Machine Learning (ECML).
