Leibniz Institute for Agricultural Engineering Potsdam-Bornim (ATB) is one of the leading agricultural engineering research institutes in Europe. The ATB conducts research on innovative technologies and processes for resource-efficient land use.

For our team of young researchers  "APECS - Anaerobic pathways to renewable energies and carbon sinks" we seek to appoint a

PostDoc (f/m) in
Environmental Microbiology.

With our four PostDocs and four PhD students we aim to develop a synergetic process for the combined production of biogas and biochar and to optimize the biochar’s soil effects. Characterization of the microbial consortia and dynamics is one of our main tasks and includes both environments anaerobic digestion and soil. In this context we are looking for a highly motivated PostDoc with a background in environmental microbiology.

Job description


·         Coordination of the microbiology sub-project of APECS
·         Characterization of the structure and dynamics of the microbial consortia in terms of fermentation and soil use of biochar
·        
Planning and supervision of anaerobic digestion and soil experiments
·        
Adaption and use of modern molecular-genetic techniques and microscopic analyses
·        
Supervision of PhD and graduate students
·        
Publication in high-ranked journals

Your Qualification and Profile

·        Dr or PhD in Biology or in a related field
·        Strong expertise in microbiology and molecular biology
·        Trained in molecular-genetic and microscopic techniques: cloning, qPCR, T-RFLP, laser scanning and fluorescence microscopy
·         Experiences in project and network management
·         Readiness to work in an interdisciplinary and international team

The salary is defined according to the German public service schema TV-L 13 at 100%. The successful candidate will be recruited for the remaining duration of project ending February 2014 (we seek to extend the project).
