Joint research

Research at an international level demands for the bundling of knowledge and excellence.
ATB is partner in the following centers and networks of excellence:

Biochar

Conversion of biomass into biochar and adjusting it to soil can be a possible strategy for climate change mitigation and soil amendment technique.
The objective of this research network is to coordinate research activities on the use of biochar
in agriculture to provide a better understanding of the potentials of biochar use in agriculture. We investigate the environmental and economic effects of biochar use in agriculture in the temperate zone and in the tropics, at the examples of Brandenburg (Germany) and Selangor (Malaysia).

ProSenso.net - Sensor-based assessment of process and product quality

Exploration of sustainability potentials by use of sensor-based technologies and integrated assessment models in the production chain of plant related food. The project is funded by the German Ministry of Education and Research. It connects 13 partners in 7 subprojects.

Freshscan

The joint research project "FreshScan" focusses on innovative concepts to characterize food quality on basis of microsystem technology. It follows a new spectrometric approach in the development of a fast and precise method for food quality and safety control in fresh produce. Within three years it is aimed to develop a demonstration model of a miniaturized detector system. It is intended to apply this hand-held unit along the process chain between slaughter house and consumer to control and ensure the demanded freshness properties of meat produce, including measurements inside or through packages.

Leibniz AGRI RESEARCH plus

A German cluster of eight agricultural research facilities within the Leibniz Association. The network acts as a platform for scientific activities related to "Knowledge Based Bio-Economy" within an extended German agricultural research. It is oriented on collaborative research projects, research planning, project attraction as well as on bundling of research capacities and joint use of scientific-technical resources. Supplemented by panels for scientific exchange, the network provides a base for excellent, interdisciplinary and integrative problem driven research.

Biogas-Crops-Net - BCN

Wissenschaftliche Grundlagenforschung zur Biogasgewinnung
The network aims to identify and develop scientific basics for the production of biogas from crop materials using mono-fermentation. Tests will be done by using different types of biogas crops, which differ considerably in structure and material composition and which have a high relevance for a practical usage in agricultural biogas plants. The network wants to develop a systematic basic research along the whole value-added chain: crop (energy accumulator) > energy conversion process > energy source.
Biogas-Crops-NET is funded by the German Federeal Ministry of Education and Research. Coordination: IASP Berlin
