Animal-friendly and emission-reduced
animal husbandry
The implementation of an enhanced animal protection in
livestock farming often leads to conflicts with legal
regulations in the field of environmental protection.
Technical solutions for animal-appropriate keeping systems
with minimum impact on the environment are required.
The research topic aims e.g. at analysing, describing and
evaluating of different keeping and housing systems in
terms of animal welfare. Another focus lies on the
quantification of emissions (primarily ammonia, methane,
laughing gas, smells and noise) and on the
characterization of the spreading behaviour of ammonia and
odours.
Research results, in particular emission factors, are made
available to public and governmental institutions,
administrative agencies, consultants and farmers.
