Headlong changes in social, technical and political conditions have led to many alterations  in market gardening too, during recent years. The main requirements demanded of producers today by trade, consumer and public sectors are large delivery quantities, optimum quality, low prices and environmentally compatible production. A closer look at developments reveals that there is still great potential for research and development, especially in the fields of postharvest treatment of fruit and vegetables.
In a complex research approach, scientists of different disciplines work together in the department on the closly linked sectors of humankind, plants and technology with a view to securing quality and competitiveness in horticulture.
