Effects on milkability traits and milk contents by using a quarter individual milking system (OASE project)
The aim of this project is to develop a clearly improved milking system, in order to ensure a milking process that is gentle to the udder and individual for every cow.
Since implementation of mechanical milking in dairy farms, udder inflammations are one of the most expensive and prevalent production diseases. In my dissertation project I analyse and evaluate the physiological effect of a quarter individual milking system with regard to udder health and milk quality. For this reason I arranged a field trial with 80 dairy cows, randomly devided into two experimental groups, to compare the quarter individual with a conventional milking system. Every week, foremilk samples from all udder quarters of each cow were taken and analysed in the ATB milk laboratory. Somatic cell count and milk ingredients like fat and protein were determined. Furthermore, milk flow curves were recorded by LactoCorder® to assess milkability traits.
